AZ Top Docs Approves Dr. Eric Cornidez of the Pain Institute of Southern Arizona for 2024
AZ Top Docs has reviewed and approved Eric Cornidez, MD, MBA of the Pain Institute of Southern Arizona for 2024. Dr. Cornidez, a Tucson native, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, a Fellowship-Trained Interventional Pain Specialist, and is Board Certified in both Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He currently serves as Managing Partner and Chief Medical Officer at the Pain Institute of Southern Arizona (PISA), which has locations across Tucson, San Tan Valley and Benson.
Dr. Cornidez pursued his vision of bringing exceptional medical resources to the Tucson community by obtaining world-class training. He earned his medical degree at Stanford University, completed his surgical internship at the University of Arizona, and specialized in Anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, where he became the first Chief Resident in Anesthesiology. He further subspecialized in Interventional Pain Management at Mayo Clinic Arizona and now serves as a consultant, investigator, and instructor on advanced pain management techniques, including neuromodulation.
As the Chief Medical Officer of PISA—the largest and most respected pain management center in Southern Arizona—Dr. Cornidez combines clinical excellence with compassionate leadership. To enhance his administrative impact, he earned an Executive MBA from the Eller College of Business at the University of Arizona. His dedication to patient care and his staff has made him one of the most respected pain physicians and leaders in the country.
Dr. Cornidez is deeply committed to serving his community. He holds several leadership roles, including Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona, Executive Board Member for the American Heart Association and Tucson Metro Chamber, and Deacon at Catalina Foothills Church. He actively supports Corazon Ministries and serves on professional boards such as the Pacific Spine and Pain Society and the Arizona Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
Dr. Cornidez’s achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including the Outstanding Community Service Award from the U.S. Department of Justice, the 40 Under 40 Achievement Award, the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s 2019 Businessman of the Year, and a position on U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani’s Community Advisory Council.
