Dr. Forstner-Barthell is a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon with a distinguished career dedicated to the treatment and prevention of colorectal conditions. After returning to the Valley in 2006, she founded a thriving female-focused colon and rectal practice, providing compassionate care for patients with a range of conditions.
Dr. Forstner-Barthell’s extensive training includes medical school at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, followed by specialized surgical training at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale and the Colon and Rectal Clinic of Orlando. She has spent much of her career focusing on anorectal conditions as well as pioneering minimally invasive procedures, such as robotic and laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer.
Currently, Dr. Forstner-Barthell specializes in diagnostic and screening colonoscopies, along with treating a broad spectrum of benign colon and anorectal diseases. Dr. Forstner-Barthell’s leadership extends beyond her practice. She served as Chair of the Cancer Committee and participated in the Medical Executive Board at Banner Thunderbird Hospital from 2008 to 2017. Dr. Forstner-Barthell is also an adjunct professor at AT Still University, training Physician Assistant students.
A Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Dr. Forstner-Barthell is also a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. She is on staff at hospitals throughout Phoenix, Glendale, and Peoria.
Outside of her medical career, Dr. Forstner-Barthell has dedicated time to charity work, having run the Nicaraguan charity “Por Ellos” for ten years.
